ARTIST STATEMENT
“Camilla Nicosia is a London based artist born and raised in Rome, Italy. She has a past of classical studies and civilisations, which prompted her interest in mythology, psychology and philosophy applied to art. Completely artistically self-taught, she earned a Foundation Diploma in Arts and Design from Central Saint Martins and then continued her studies at Chelsea College of Arts, where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Fine Art.
Camilla is a versatile artist that doesn’t shy away from new materials and media and is very faithful in bringing her sketches and designs to life. Her recent work is mainly costume and performance-based, but she doesn’t like to narrow her practice to just that, so you can also observe her acting, paintings, sculptures, and collages. She coordinated the space and participated in various exhibitions In London and Rome.
Recently she has been working as a prop maker and costume designer for theatre and independent short movies, one of which (Once Familiar) was nominated for multiple awards, and won Terror Molins’ best short film. She’s mainly inspired by the use of symbolic references with mysterious powers and has a great consideration for nature and natural shapes, with the use of organic materials (or a simulation thereof) that results in art depicting or symbolising the natural processes of transformation, evolution and decay.”
